Nate relaxed on the couch, enjoying not having to talk or move for awhile. He expected Doc to handle the explaining, but was surprised to see the old man come back into the living room and to the computer screen. Was it wise to leave Metal Boy with Storm alone? What if his phone were to ring?
Very important business, Doc signed with a gesture to the computer. He had read the deaf boy's thoughts and answered the unspoken question. You should go talk to him as both he and Storm haven't a clue. Nate shrugged. This hole brainwashing business was getting on Nate's last nerves. Dustin was the third one to come through. They have been looking for the culprit for a while, and Nate wasn't very happy at the little success they've made.
The first brainwashee was a very pretty female who was not an Alpha. They found out that she was needed because of her job as a government worker. When Doc found her and brought her back, everyone tried to keep an eye out for her. But the silly girl answered her phone when no one was around and was ordered to drive her car off the bridge. And that she did. The second one was an older man that was an Alpha with the power to go invisible. He was used as a hit man for awhile, and they weren't sure exactly how many he killed. That man went after one of the other Alphas on the team and Nate himself one day. They ended up to stop and Doc tried to help him. The man was persistent not to get help, however. A couple days after the man had slipped from the team's sight, he was found dead after jumping off a tall building.
Nate didn't trust Dustin. Nothing personal, but once he goes into the mental state of being brainwashed, nothing would bring him back unless they had the medication that prevented it. Nate almost had his leg shattered by the tire of a car today. He wasn't in the mood to be forgiving.
Nate glared at the back of Doc's head, wondering what he was doing that was so important. Doc knew he thought this, but didn't comment. Suddenly, Nate had the urge to kiss Doc.
Vomit.
Lust. He was feeling lusty, and it was coming from the back room. Trying not to throw up, Nate stood with some difficulty and made his was back there. Now that all the adrenaline had worn off and he was tired, his soreness felt intensified. All he wanted to do was go sit back down, but that wouldn't do him any good if he wanted to kiss Doc's old wrinkled face. No offense Doc, if you're listening to my rambling mind.
The door was open and his eyes widened at how close they were to each other. "Sorry to ruin the moment, but I'm getting strong vibes of lust from this room. Whichever of you it is, keep it in your pants please. The feeling is making me sick." Nate gave a pointed look at Dustin. He didn't know which of them it was, but since he once was a teenage boy--thank God those days were over--he knew how the hormones worked. Nate felt extremely uncomfortable. The idea of Dustin and Storm made him sick--what if he killed Storm? Not that he would do it on purpose, but if it happened...? But he was in no position to warn Storm (what was he, an overprotective father?)
"While I'm here, I should probably talk to you," Nate muttered to Dustin. What was so important, Doc? Why are you making me explain all this? You know I hate to talk as much as I hate newbies and the brainwashees. Why me, Doc? "I'm sure she's explained Alphas to you. Well, there's one with a power to brainwash you. Every time he calls you and you answer the phone, you'll hear a buzzing noise-so I'm told-and this Alpha will be in control of you." Nate moved over to a cabinet and pulled out two needles and two bottles of a clear liquid. "This stuff is the only thing that can take you out of this state. You won't be able to remember anything, like how you almost killed Storm or how I got hit by a car because you pushed me." He tossed a needle and the bottle to Storm. The other one he put in his pocket, saying simply, "just in case."
Nate was trying to make him feel guilty, with the attacking Storm and car thing. Then maybe the idiot won't answer his phone anymore. "This has happened to people before. He'll probably try to call you soon and get you to kill Storm, or all of us, again. Make sure you stay near us for awhile, or just don't answer your phone. And eventually, the culprit is going to try to brainwash you to kill yourself. Don't worry, the brainwashing thing will wear off eventually." I think. So far, everyone else has died, so I don't know. "Sorry, it's a lot to take in."
